About
AllieAdvisor wasn't designed from market research. Every module exists because a real Illinois agency hit the problem first — and built the fix.
The story
Legacy Consulting Agencies is a licensed Illinois agency serving the 2–50 employee market in and around Chicago — real groups, real renewals, real carrier statements arriving every month. It's also the place AllieAdvisor was built, module by module, in the order the agency's own book demanded: the smallest employers need almost everything a hundred-person company needs — census work, rate comparisons, enrollment, compliance clocks, renewals — on a commission that has never covered the human hours. Software was the only honest way to serve them well.
The proof is operational, not aspirational. The commission engine exists because Legacy's own commissions didn't reconcile — it now closes the month against actual bank deposits, validated to the penny. The COBRA module reads real billed rates because Legacy had a real group wind down. The deadline engine exists because real clients had real compliance windows. The platform is live today, with real Illinois groups enrolled and a full year of commissions reconciled against the bank.
Behind the agency is its founder, Dan Ellis — a decade-plus running markets and 100+ licensed agents at a national carrier before founding Legacy in 2021, and the person who watched the smallest employers get the least help from both sides of the desk. He built the fix inside his own agency first. That's the whole founder story; the platform is the interesting part.
Legacy Consulting Agencies remains the licensed agency behind the platform — the agent of record on medical business written through it, with licensed professionals accountable for every recommendation. AllieAdvisor is the software. The two are deliberately separate: the platform earns nothing from insurance commissions, which is exactly why agents on it keep theirs.
The philosophy
Benefits is a trust-sensitive business, and software has made it easy to fake confidence — invented savings banners, padded projections, "AI insights" that are really guesses. We went the other way, and wrote it into the product rules:
Quotes come from carrier-filed rate data. Where we don't have filed rates, the platform declines to quote rather than estimate — there's an internal map of where real-rate quoting works and where Allie will honestly say she can't. New accounts start empty and fill through real use: no fake seed clients, no demo numbers dressed up as your numbers.
Underwriting minimums, guaranteed-issue rules, continuation law — cited to carrier documents and statutes. When a carrier's rules aren't on file, Allie answers "no rules on file." She is built to never invent one.
Allie remembers each client's history — and access is strictly scoped. An agent's private strategy notes never surface to the employer. Employee questions to Allie are anonymized before anything is kept — no name, no employer, no way back to a person. We keep the lesson, never the identity.
